Earthen House amber light

Blue Light Blocking Bulbs and Lamps

Standard lights emit blue wavelengths that suppress melatonin and delay sleep. Every product in this collection removes blue light entirely, using warm amber tones that support your body's natural sleep cycle. Bulbs, lamps, book lights, and night lights, all designed for the sleeping home.

Why standard globes interfere with sleep

Your brain uses light as its primary signal for when to wake and when to sleep. The wavelength it watches most closely is blue light, in the 400–500nm range. When you're exposed to that range in the hours before bed, your brain holds back melatonin. It reads "blue light" as "still daytime."

Standard LED globes, including most marketed as warm white, still produce meaningful amounts of blue light. Even at low brightness. Even through a lampshade. The colour temperature might look warm, but the spectrum often isn't.

Blue light blocking globes are different. They're engineered to eliminate the 400–500nm range entirely, not just reduce it. The light they emit looks warm amber. That warmth isn't cosmetic. It's the absence of the wavelengths that delay sleep onset.

What to look for

Full elimination, not reduction. Many products labelled blue light blocking only reduce it by 50–80%. That still leaves enough to suppress melatonin. Look for 100% blocking across the full 400–500nm range.

Amber versus red. Amber globes block blue light. Red globes block both blue and green light, making them a more protective option for use directly before sleep or during the night. For most people, amber is the right choice for the evening. Red is better for use closer to bedtime.

Australian fittings. The most common fittings in Australian homes are E27 (standard screw), B22 (bayonet), and GU10 (downlight). Check what you have before buying.

Brightness. A good blue light blocking globe should be bright enough to light a room properly. Not a dim accent. A proper replacement for your existing globe.

Soma Sleep blue light blocking globes

All Soma Sleep globes block 100% of blue light between 400–500nm. They fit standard Australian fittings and run at full room brightness.

Amber Glow Sleep Bulb (E27 screw and B22 bayonet) — the most versatile option. Works in any room.

Amber Glow Sleep Bulb E14 (small screw fitting) — for bedside lamps, narrow fittings, and candelabra sockets.

Day+Night Multi-Spectrum Light (E27 screw and B22 bayonet) — full-spectrum white light during the day, zero-blue amber at night. One globe, three modes.

Red Night Dream Bulb (E27 screw and B22 bayonet) — blocks 100% of both blue and green light. Better suited for bedrooms and use closer to bedtime.

Not sure where to start? The Amber Glow is a direct replacement for any E27 or B22 globe. It's the most practical first step.
